Autumn 1

We are ready and eager to start our new topic this half term ‘It’s cold outside!’ and become weather explorers. We have lots of fun activities in place to teach our young children about the changes in the weather. We are excited to explore winter and discuss similarities and differences between it and the other seasons. We will focus on first hand experiences e.g. from learning how to put our own coat, hats and scarfs on independently. Also learning lots of new fun songs, rhymes, music, and creative art.

We will be using books and stories to drive the theme of ‘It’s cold outside!’

Autumn 2 Review

Last half term we enjoyed learning all about food and taking advantages of our local supermarket and green grocer’s. We were lucky the children had first-hand experience of a range of tasting a variety of different foods in season. We encouraged the children to make personal decision by offering real choices this shows increasing desire to be independent, such as feeding themselves. One of the stories we really enjoyed reading was The Little red hen. We made our own dough and helped our friends to make pizza too. The children had fun learning about different foods by taste, paintings, jigsaws and model making.

We also had an amazing EYFS Great outdoors open day with many parents attending. We safely made our own campfire with Mrs Smith and had hot chocolate, oat biscuits too! We had great fun with all the Goldilocks and the Three Bears themed activities.

Please check Eastwood Twitter (x) for all the amazing this we get up to!

Autumn 1 Review - Elmer and Friends

Welcome back to our children and families. We are always amazed at how quickly the children settle after a holiday with lots of smiles, giggles and eager to play. We would also like to welcome the new children and parents who have recently started in our busy preschool.

This half term the children have got stuck in learning all about Elmer and Friends. The children have been talking about themselves, their homes and their families. We have enjoyed sharing the different Elmer books and listening to simple stories that introduce interesting new vocabulary. This has helped understanding what is happening with the help of the pictures, that has especially encouraged conversations. We have enjoyed singing, action rhymes and collaborative learning.

We have luckily had great opportunities this term and managed some exciting learning outside the classroom making the most of our outside space and our local area. We have walked around Victoria Park to observe the changing of seasons from summer to autumn. We collected lots of leaves, acorns and conkers to use in our indoor provision.
